Hwy 45 Bridge Closure Hinders Access to Campus

Hwy 45 Bridge Closure Hinders Access to Campus

Anyone heading to Atchison from the south and planning to use MO Hwy 45 will find the bridge north of Weston closed.  Although the Missouri Department of Transportation has established a detour, it is not well marked and adds at least 20 minutes to the trip.  College officials are recommending avoiding it entirely by taking an alternate route across Hwy 92, through Leavenworth, and then approaching the campus from Hwy 7 in Kansas.

The MoDot detour up through the bluffs is over hilly, curvy roads. If people choose the detour, it takes them on County Road M to MO Hwy 116 to Rushville. Once they get to Rushville, they will then go south on US Hwy 59 to Atchison.

NOTE: There is a LOT of misinformation going around on Facebook that the Amelia Earhart Bridge is closed. WRONG BRIDGE!!! It is the Hwy 45 bridge headed south to Weston. The bridge across the Missouri River is OPEN. If friends and family are coming from St. Joseph and points north, they will not have to deal with any closures.
